Recreation Snowbird is in the heart of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest
in Little Cottonwood Canyon, one of the most picturesque mountain canyons in Utah and only 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport.
Combining the amenities of a major metropolitan area with the friendliness of a small,
western city, Salt Lake City is fast becoming one of America's foremost destinations—and
for good reason. A beautiful, safe, and vibrant city, Salt Lake combines unparalleled
access to natural recreation, a bustling economy, dynamic nightlife, remarkable history, and
warm hospitality.
Salt Lake is nestled in a valley at the foot of two mountain ranges—the Wasatch to the
east and the Oquirrhs to the west. During summer, hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking are
just minutes away. Daily sunshine, low humidity, and refreshing mountain
breezes combine for a comfortable year-round climate.

SALT LAKE CITY TOUR
|
|
|

|
This tour is a complete look at what makes Salt Lake City so unique. You will begin by seeing, “This is
the Place” State Park, featuring monuments, historic buildings, and bits of Utah culture.
From here participants will drive past the University of Utah and Fort Douglas which was turned into the Olympic
Village during the Winter 2002 Olympic Games. The tour will continue past the University and will turn down Historic South
Temple Street. First envisioned in Joseph Smith's Plat of Zion of 1833 and later employed by Brigham
Young in 1847, South Temple Street was meant to be the finest and most prominent avenue in Salt Lake
City, as well as a model for other cities and towns in the west. Much of South Temple's success today is
a direct reflection of this original bold vision. The American Planning Association has selected South
Temple Street as one of 10 Great Streets in America for its historical residential design and
craftsmanship, diversity of land uses, and the integration of multiple forms of transportation throughout
history. The next stop will be the Utah State Capitol Building, which has recently undergone a $200
million renovation. The building was constructed between 1912 and 1916, using granite from nearby
Little Cottonwood Canyon. The dome is covered with Utah copper. There are 52 Corinthian columns.
Throughout the grounds, on the building itself, and within the interior are countless beehive
representations. The beehive is Utah's state symbol, representing the values of industry and
cooperation. The final stop will be the world-famous Mormon Temple Square, which took 40 years to build.
Here participants will learn the history of the Church of Latter-day Saints and the heritage of Salt Lake City. Tour
includes the Tabernacle, Temple Square Visitor Centers, Assembly Hall, and the new Conference
Center.
A box lunch will be provided on the tour
